Software for funcube dongle
Thanks — with the command list I have now implemented the main features — I had not reckoned on an IF gain and wondered how to do it. In the end I settled for 10dB steps rather than 1dB steps. I could easily do either. Anything greater than about 30 seems to upset the system. The filter setting does not work, maybe firmware? I have put a beta DLL in the fcdproplus yahoo group file area. IT works for me — but it is a beta!
Grerat news, Mike. Is there somewhere else to get it? Mike, My fcdproplus forum membership came thru. I did see your previous note, but I found that am having a technical problem uploading files to this site at the moment, so I was waiting for that to work. Will it work and do I need some special drivers or dll files?? Many thanks Howard,. Hello everybody. Some remarks: — when I plug in the device, it appears as a proper audio device Ubuntu But when I try to select it as an input, the gnome sound setup application crashes.
FUNcube Dongle V2. In this case the application starts and says that the dongle is connected. I am just trying to get the proplus working on Ubuntu His email address is leif sm5bsz. I have two questions for you:. Given that sampling is done internally at bits, would it be possible and worthwhile to change the firmware to optionally output deeper samples at lower rates, say bit samples to keep it within USB Audio specs at 48 or 96 KHz?
Our application uses unlicensed wildlife telemetry bands around and MHz. In the source code I already have a full set of tested selections of bit depth and sampling rates, 48kHz and 96kHz at 24 bits and 48, 96 and kHz at 16 bits. Firstly, if Windows sees 24 bit and 16 bit interfaces, the 16 bit interfaces are bot selectable, presumably because it feels that the 24 bit ones are always going to be what the end user would want, thus the ksps rate would not ever be available.
Secondly, when I exposed 48, 96 and kHz at 16 bits, Windows appears to force the end user would need to manually go into the advanced section of the recording tab in the Sound control panel applet and override the default selection of 48kHz to use any higher rate than 48kHz. All understood. The problem at this stage is that it would mean having two different firmware versions to support, and the maintenance of new USB PID s.
Well done on the beagleboard cross compilation by the way. You sure need to have time on your hands! Working on QT5 on r-pi is like building on quicksand, the environment is so volatile that documentation carefully written just days ago is no longer valid.
For my current application I only need a fraction of the samplerate and sample at k and throw most of it away is not that that fun in a small computer platform like the r-pi. Providing a different bit rate would need a separate firmware release and all the support that that would demand.
Is it not possible for your to filter and undersample? There shoul dbe plenty of processing power in an R-Pi to do that. It can also read 5 FCDP simultaneously. Thanks again for making a great teaching tool and SDR dongle, you are the talk of the world in both radio amateur and software radio design; I will talk to you later about a different type of SDR I need to develop which is part of a project that as commercial opportunities if it can be achieved. TTFN mate. So there are many ways to resolve this if the assumption above is true.
You could also use an additional USB 2. I managed to find the revised Intel specification sheet link below if that helps? I guess they do not impliment USB 1. I have not tried it on Windows 8 Pro yet. Any thoughts Howard? Regards Ray. This is the wonderful Microsoft for you, in years gone by there was no need for all this rubbish. Apart from this glitch it performs extremely well. What are you updating the firmware with?
Are there any error messages or does it just hang? The FCHID app just hangs and then crashes after about 5 seconds running in memory with the dongle inserted or not? I have tried all versions of compatible mode withing Windows 7 Pro to no avail. There is no duplicate apps so something else is causing it to crash. Any thoughts? As others have noted I am also having the issue where FCHid If you watch task manager it runs for a split second and then disappears from task manager.
I never get the program up. Any ideas? This is a bit confusing. Received my FCD today, thank you very much Howard! I have a question regarding the extio. Is there a version ready to be put in the download section? Thank you! The program pops into taskmanager for a split second and then exits. I am using the latest version of qthid fcdpp 4. If qthid is started and stick is inserted afterwards, it gets stuck on the same thing.
Has anyone ran into this issue? Looks like your solution did fix the issue, however now i am facing a different issue where qthid is crashing after about 30 seconds. Please disregard my last post, it appears that the crashing issue was caused by the fact that there was a vm running in the background and using the usb device.
Thanks for all the help. Can you give me some more information about the error message, and what steps you took before the error message appeared? Followed all instructions on how to update.
Using win 7 ultimate 64 bit with 16 gig mem and 3t harddrive Can you please help? In this case, I suggest that you download the appropriate. Thoroughly recommended. Alan where can i find the latest the Xetio …..
Ben, AA7AS here. My SdrDx beta testers report that HF and below is working, but frequencies higher than 16 MHz or so do not tune correctly. Hi Howard Got my pro plus yesterday. What a great dongle. I have two other dongles and the new one is great. No more upconverters or filters. Great Job Gary.
I want to monitor the meter band to KHz using special receive antennas. Thanks for any suggestions. If you are lucky enough to live in an area with negligible ambient noise on HF, and are seeing a continuous peak in the centre, then it will be worth offseting to one side or the other, setting the LO to say or I am jealous if you can! Hi Howard Great piece of kit! The drop down box Radio: says -None-. Thanks in advance for any replies. Regards John Wiggins. Somebody has exact values?
This one is not switchable, i read in another post. The switchable LNA is inside the Tuner chip. Which tuner is used? Besides the gain values.. Other have similar DC values? Is or will there be a way to fix the DC in firmware? The gains are a bit dependent on the frequency band in operation but your measurements are about right. The LNA used above 32MHz has a gain of about 22dB or so, but please bear in mind that this is attenuated by the filters, and then subsequently attenuators are used in a effort to equalise gains to about the same levels.
I am not sure what units you are measuring the DC offset in? Just renewed my measurement with an audio editor at low noise without any signals visible: Left offset: 0. I have seen a similar thing with other radios when used with certain switch mode power supplies. Typically this can be corrected by using an outside antenna. The problem is that particularly switch mode power supplies emit RF which causes interference.
Some switch mode supplies are better behaved than others. Merry Xmas to all. Version V. Version 1. Thank you my friend i will get in touch as soon as my grandchildren are gone HI!!!
Your help will be very much appreciated. Regarding the dB, this can be a little misleading as this is a figure designed for relative measurements rather than being an absolute measurement.
It is also of course dependent on what the gain settings are set to. This is not specifically documented by the chip manufacturer, but when we started to test preproduction units out, we dicovered the gap that we documented in the FAQ. Can you adjust your LO to compensate? My 2nd question is about the byte stream which will be send to the FCD for frequency setting. I assume that within this control string not just the frequency is set, but also the FCD filter, preamp, phamtom volatge … will be set.
Is there a documentation about the field description to be used? The parameters directly control the available settings on the tuner chip itself. There is a header file in there, FCHidCmd. Can you let me have some more information please? What software and version s is it that is telling you that no FCD is detected? Hello everybody.
I had a problem on my main PC running XP sp3 the dongle was not recognised as a sound card. It seems that something modified the original directory. In fact comparing the two directories revealed that lots of modifications are made by the various programs i tried. Received the FCD today.
Given this failure, I downloaded the source code, compiled it in Qt, fixed the warnings in the code unused variables in function calls, harmless but annoying and very bad practice , and get the same results. Before I go digging into the source to try and figure it out, I should point out that the FCD is plugged into a powered hub — where, as I say, it works fine with the simple front end and Spectraview. Does anyone know if the Qt code handles other than the primary ports on a computer?
OK, never mind. Works once the FCd is upgraded to 18j. Sorry, but I need help. I can not do my FCD to work. It is not possible to start the setup. What to do? That is why you need the FCHid program. Good afternoon. How to transfer to an operating mode? I received the receiver at the end of May, but time to be engaged in it appeared just now. Tried to update, as it is described on a site. Usually if the device will not exit bootloader mode there is a hardware fault that occurs while starting up the firmware.
If you can email me a tracking number of the returned device, I will send a brand new replacement straight away. Hello Howard, I purchased the Funcube Dongle Pro about 3 months ago, at the time it was the latest ver 1.
I have tried on and off since I purchased the above to get it working, without success I have reloaded the 18j firmware from you website and followed the instructions all loaded ok. The problem that I am encountering is that I cannot receive any radio frequency on it, the only thing I manage to get is on short bursts of packet radio which is very quiet, and when I changed frequency and set the new frequency all I get is a continuosly cw tones and telling me that the dongle is not there.
I have tried all bands with no success. As this was not cheap I would appreciate feed back on where to send this back to, in order for it to be checked out for any faults on it. Many thanks I would appreciate a reply. Neville G4ZTM. Hello Howard, I wonder how my Dongle is coming along, did you find any problems with it? Or have you fixed it and despatched it back to me. I have been looking on my email to see if you had passed any comment, but as yet have not had any further emails from you.
Hi Howard is it possible to buy a replacement sticker for the PRO? Cheers Gary 2e0lgz. Is it possible to put the extio here as people new to the dongles keep asking on the yahoo groups. To download they need to join yahoo whereas here they only need solve a moderate maths puzzle. It seems stable. The old version for the pro has a bug I ought to fix. It is in the ini file reading. Subtle stupidity on my part.. I will go with typo. I will upload a corrected version presently.
I will also bump it up to release 1. There are no other changes of note. The name provided in the examples hw:0 and others are Linux-style names. Are there any other unexpected quirks there? Broadcast band should be about the same.
Thanks for some figures to work on with. Works nice. Is that normal? The peak in the middle is due to DC offset and phase noise. Thanks for reply on spurs. I am still baffled by the terminated noise floor.
At best mine is dbm using the latest standard SW. I have noted a few posts with dbm or more. Am I missing something? Sorry it looks like I misunderstood your question. What OS are you using? Also what software are you using? The dB levels are all relative, but I agree, about to dB or so is a nice starting point. If you are seeing the spurs, as these are very low level, then I am sure that it is a software-side level setting thing.
Using w7 with a resetting of the recording level the spurs are just about gone and the noise floor runs dbm or so. The overall sensitivity is also better. Thanks much. FUNcube Dongle. Thank you all for your patience.
Posted in Uncategorized 1 Comment. Funcube Dongle stock update 16 June Posted on April 19, by admin. Folks Again due to unexpected high demand this year, our stocks have been depleted again.
We expect to have fully completed and tested stock again within the next week. In the meantime, thank you for your patience. FUNcube Dongle works with Windows 10! This mode allows for the automatic restarting of the telemetry decoder after a shutdown or reboot of the Raspberry Pi, therefore making it suitable for a remote deployment situation. Full instructions can be downloaded here. After some eight months in continuous sunlight, FUNcube-1 has now started to see some eclipses during each orbit.
The telemetry received has shown that the spacecraft continued to function perfectly during this period and the on board temperatures did not reach excessively high levels. After this became clear, our next concern was the battery.
Having been kept fully charged for this period, would it actually hold a charge and do its job when in eclipse? After three weeks of increasing eclipse periods we can now see that indeed the Li battery appears to be ok and the bus voltage has not yet dropped below 8. So today we have changed the operating mode from high power telemetry educational mode to continuous amateur mode withe the transponder ON.
The telemetry continues to be available, albeit at low power. We will, of course, continue to carefully monitor the data but are planning to leave the spacecraft in this mode for at least the next week. Please enjoy using it!
A very short time after the launch from Yasny in Russia and within a few minutes from deployment, the very first frame of data from the low power transmitter on board, was detected and decoded by ZS1LS in South Africa. After a very brief check out, we were able to switch the transmitter to full power, again at the very first attempt, and were quite amazed at the strength of the signal from the mW transmitter on The transponder was then switched on and successfully tested.
Since then, FUNcube-1, with a launch mass of less than 1kg, has operated continuously with only a very few interruptions. In excess of orbits, million miles travelled, and with more than 7 million data packets downloaded and stored in the Data Warehouse. We anticipate this situation will continue until early May next after which we expect to have 3 months with some eclipse periods.
We still receive many requests for Fitter message uploads for school events…please contact us by email to operations funcube. We continue to be very grateful to all the many stations around the world that continue to upload the telemetry that they receive to our Data Warehouse. We really need this data to provide a continuous resource for educational outreach.
With that in mind, here is a link to a previous update which shows the correct current Data Warehouse address and the Dashboard software that can be used for each spacecraft. We are delighted that the BPSK telemetry transmitter, on our payload, was enabled for a period of just over minutes in orbit! Although we were not able to announce this activation in advance, more than ten stations around the world successfully received the telemetry on We are very grateful to them for their support.
For example, a number of on-board temperatures are shown in this graph which covers the period from to UTC. We are keenly awaiting further possibilities to exercise more of the payload as soon as this becomes possible but, in the meantime, is good to know that all the telemetry channels reported nominal values.
