Next dollar shopping game
A facilitator is needed to hand out money and determine if amounts paid are correct. Each student begins the game with 20 dollar bills. To begin play, a student places his or her playing piece on the "HOME" square, rolls the die, and moves to the appropriate game-board square. Then, he or she draws a card. The player reads the money amount on the card and determines the amount needed to pay for the item by rounding up to the next dollar.
The draw cards feature 60 realistic illustrations of items that can be purchased at a variety of locations. Click the image or link above to play the Dollar Up interactive game. On the first screen, students choose to play either an easy or difficult game. For the easy game, students should move the money into the box that is one dollar more than the amount given. By using this method, you will not be overcharged more than 99 cents when purchasing items.
Money is moved by clicking on the mouse and dragging it or using a touch screen device. Once the money has been moved, the check button should be pressed.
Thank you for addressing this huge need in life skills programs. Love the way you have it set up. This is a great idea! Unfortunately it doesn't teach foreign currencies and doesn't have a setting to turn off the amount for student to practice listening only.
I've been waiting for this app for quite awhile. Thanks for addressing this huge need in life skills programs! The only suggestion I'd make is to add a level or several of difficulty with larger bills for those who can grasp it with enough practice.
I'd pay a little more for that. This may be the medium that finally successfully teaches my student this skill! Well done! The fully illustrated game board provides students with opportunities to identify the next dollar amount needed to purchase items in "real-world" situations.
